Death - an extract from The Shadow Fabric

“Last night I saw Death,” she said, “and it spoke to me. I heard its voice. I heard many voices. I tasted fire, could smell the fear and see the pain, and when I closed my eyes, I knew something wanted me—something large, powerful, and perhaps even greater than God. The opposite of God. It wanted to show me pleasure and desire and the answers to all questions. At the same time it wanted to be me. Eat me and kill me. Drown me and burn me. It wanted me to kill myself. It wanted me to starve, to jump from a roof.”

“It wanted me to bang my head against the wall,” she added, “and it wanted to love me. It told me it loved me, and inside those words, I saw my head bloody as I smashed it against the wall. I felt its own desire and pleasures. All it wanted was my death. It wanted to suck in my life and blow it out as darkness. And that darkness was all there was. And this frightened me more than anything. More than the other strange things I saw. It wanted me to exist as nothing. A darkness so much more than Death’s offering.”

In the Newspaper, Again

As The Shadow Fabric finally hit the shelves, a local newspaper, the Kent Messenger, asked me a series of questions. This is a cutting from their October 24th edition:

Here's another from the Courier newspaper featured a few weeks ago on October 3rd:

Guns N' Rocks - Playing in the Shadows

Beside the copse rose a steady hillside, and in places, vertical spears of rock jutted between tufts of grass and brambles. The line of trees ended at the hill, and on the other edge the mini-bus sat. The passengers, all men—at a quick count a dozen—were handcuffed and being led into the woods. They wore identical overalls. Four more men flanked the group. Each held a torch in one hand, and an automatic weapon in the other.
        My mouth was dry. Guns?

The Symbol - Frayed Ends of the Shadow Fabric

That symbol, everywhere: two triangles with facing apexes, one hollow, the other solid, and separated by a crude X...

And there's this one:

Photos from the Crypt - promoting The Shadow Fabric

In promoting The Shadow Fabric, I've had the pleasure to work with Chris Shoebridge, using and abusing his outstanding skills in photography and image manipulation.

Not only have I used his work, I've been lucky enough to find several random images on my hard drive; photographs that at the time I didn't know I'd use for promoting a novel I'd one day write. That's kinda strange, I feel.

Over the years it seems I've taken photos of weird stuff, and sadly cannot remember where any are from.

Now they're here, after a few tweaks in Photoshop.

Let the Music Play

It has been said that music is life, but it can also mean death...

On a chill breeze the music floated through the shattered wall.

Halloween is coming!

Halloween is creeping up on us, and that means The Shadow Fabric Kindle version will be released.

To my knowledge, I’d never before seen a dead body. The sunken eyes were a pair of tiny beads inside a skull. Not a head, a skull. The skin shrivelled in uneven ridges of miniature peaks and valleys. Gaping nostrils in a nose cavity of shrunken flesh, and below it, the mouth; a rictus suggesting nothing short of terror. Sparse grey hair hung from the dome of the skull, clumped across the forehead. It reminded me of a Halloween mask.

Buried Demons in the Shadow Fabric mythos

Research into demonology while I plotted The Shadow Fabric led me to bury several crafty demons around the globe—at least in my notebook. Some of the future stories in the Shadow Fabric mythos will delve into this.

My last flash fiction story, "Claimed", may have possibly awakened one such demon...

The Shadow Fabric - History Vs Rumour

After the Great Fire of London, the Shadow Fabric was never again seen for over three centuries. However, rumours have it that key figures in Britain's history kept its whereabouts secret.

It is said that Winston Churchill succeeded in stopping Hitler and the Nazi's occultism using the Shadow Fabric during the Second World War.

Imagine if this regime had taken control of such an ancient and deadly force.

Long before this, the British Monarchy kept the Fabric hidden supposedly within the vaults of London. One question remains: during Queen Victoria's reign, did the Shadow Fabric possess a man known as Jack the Ripper?

Rumours suggest that Queen Victoria knew not only the identity of this infamous killer, but also how this man managed to travel through the shadows undetected.

All rumours, certainly.

Yet in the spring of 2014, the Shadow Fabric finally came into the light...
